Down at the Soul Pole

27 11 2006

Grossing big money at the box office in its first opening week (even surpassing the critically acclaimed movie 007: Casino Royale), “Happy Feet” unveils the life of a one of a kind penguin, Mumble (voiced by Elijah Wood) in search for his own identity. Born differently from the others, Mumble is faced with a singing disability but is blessed with the unlikely talents of tap-dancing! While the others lived and loved through their music, Mumble, discriminated upon, deals with losing his love, Gloria (voiced by Britanny Murphy) and his family, hence leading him to a bunch of comical penguin bums – the Amigos. Together, they face a hurdle of challenges and in the meantime, solving the mystery of the ‘alien-abducted’ fishes.

Highly comical and oh so cute, ‘Happy Feet’ is one movie worth watching with the entire family. Combine cute penguins with great musical numbers and choreography, and you get one major box-office breaking smash hit. However, cuteness aside, it unfortunately lacks humor, diminished by the underlying messages it’s trying to convey to the audience. Yet, despite that, ‘Happy Feet’ gets a thumbs up as being educational and inspirational for all ages. +++ – Raja

FYI: I’ve watched the Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny also, but since it’s a major bull and rubbish, I’d rather not waste anytime reviewing it. Seriously full of crap! Avoid watching it at all costs, trust me!
